Composite Cambelt Cover for a MX5 MK1
This project was to remanufacture a Cambelt cover for a MK1 MX5 using composite materials and 3D printing.
The original Cam belt cover was removed from the car and measured.
The part was then modelled in Fusion 360, where it was used as a base part for creating a male and female mould.
Once the moulds were created, draft analysis was conducted to ensure adequate angles were applied to prevent mechanical locking and aid part removal after curing.
Keyshot was used to get an idea of what the final part would look like.
The mould was then 3D printed, coated in mould release agent and then the carbon fiber part was moulded.
After trimming, the part was fitted to the car.
